River Island's eighties extravaganza
River Island invited us to spend a very enjoyable hour at their 'I Love the Eighties' fashion show last week. A real hoot featuring models (including model-of-the-moment Tolula, above right) styled by the PR team and working the catwalk to a whole clutch of eighties megatunes. We loved the mad print tees, neon necklaces and Chloe-esque studded boots - all arriving in-store next month. There is even a skinny paint-splattered jean named after madcap PR manager (and unofficial River Island muse) Arieta (above left).
The funniest bit was sitting next to iconic fashion editor Caroline Baker who was a bit of a super-stylist in the eighties (i-D, Vogue, you name it) and is still going strong now thank-you-very-much. "Didn't you invent this look Caroline?" we whispered as yet another boyfriend blazer with collar upturned and skinny jeans combo wafted past us. She was too modest to agree but gave us a knowing smile.
